Previous EventsSEVDAH & SAUDADES: A Bosnian-Brazilian jam and concert - March 20, 2010 Rainier Valley Cultural Center, 3515 S Alaska Street, Seattle, Washington Local Seattle artists from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Brazil gather for the first time ever to explore their cultures' common theme of love and longing. Sevdah, in Bosnian, not only refers to longing, it is the name given to the culture's traditional music of old town centers. Saudades, meaning longing in Portuguese, plays a central role in Brazilian poetry and music. The artists will jam in the afternoon, share dinner and then the doors will open to the public for a 60-minute concert of music just developed hours earlier by these pros followed by a cultural conversation between the audience and artists from the stage. The concert will include a separate Bosnian set, Brazilian set and will close with music developed during the jam. There will be a post-concert social hour for informal mingling in the downstairs hall.
The fine artists include: Eduardo Mendonca, Nedim "Hadzija" Hamzic, Amir "Lazy" Beso and others.
Sincere thanks to the Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs for helping make this event possible through generous funding. This event is being sponsored by Sevdah North America and Show Brazil. www.sevdahnorthamerica.org/ http://www.showbrazil.com/
